Coronation Street Actor Chris Fountain Battles Back After Stroke

Published on

A beloved actor from the popular TV show Coronation Street received overwhelming support from fans after bravely sharing details of his recent battle with a stroke.

Chris Fountain, known for his role as Tommy Duckworth on the long-standing ITV soap since 2011, captivated audiences with his portrayal. Engaging in significant storylines, including intricate relationships with characters like his father Terry and Tina McIntyre, played by Michelle Keegan, Fountain left a lasting impact on viewers.

However, in 2013, Fountain faced controversy and was written out of the show due to the emergence of inappropriate rap videos featuring his alter-ego, The Phantom. Despite this setback, Fountain’s resilience shone through, only to face another challenge in August 2022 when he experienced a mini stroke, leaving him temporarily incapacitated and hospitalized in London.

Following this health scare, Fountain disclosed that doctors diagnosed him with a Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) caused by a blood clot in his brain. Subsequent tests revealed an underlying heart condition, leading Fountain to undergo heart surgery in May 2023 in hopes of preventing future strokes, referring to his mended heart as a “bionic” upgrade.

Recently, on Stroke Prevention Day, Fountain took to social media, sharing a poignant post chronicling his journey post-stroke. Expressing gratitude for the support of loved ones during his ordeal, Fountain highlighted the importance of stroke prevention, emphasizing the role of managing high blood pressure in reducing stroke risks.

Encouraging his followers to prioritize their health, Fountain pledged his support to @thestrokeassociation and urged everyone to monitor their blood pressure for early detection and prevention of strokes. Messages of encouragement and admiration flooded the comments section, with fans expressing pride in Fountain’s resilience and determination to raise awareness about stroke prevention.

Fountain’s inspiring story serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing health and taking proactive measures to safeguard against life-threatening conditions. His unwavering spirit continues to resonate with fans, showcasing the power of perseverance in overcoming challenges.

Catch Coronation Street airing on ITV1 and ITVX from Monday to Friday at 8:30 pm for more riveting drama and compelling storytelling.
