Coronation Street’s character Leanne Battersby has been involved in numerous romantic storylines on the show, but in real life, actress Jane Danson is happily married to another soap star.
Jane rose to fame when she joined the ITV series in 1997 as Leanne alongside her on-screen sister Toyah, played by Georgia Taylor. Throughout her time on the show, Leanne has been at the center of various dramatic plots, ranging from scandals like affairs and sex work to heart-wrenching experiences such as baby loss and substance abuse. In recent episodes, her character has embarked on a new relationship with Idris Nazir, portrayed by Junade Khan.
Contrary to her on-screen love life, Jane is married to fellow soap actor Robert Beck. Robert has appeared in popular soap operas like Brookside, Emmerdale, and Waterloo Road. Interestingly, he even made a guest appearance on Coronation Street in 2008 as criminal Jimmy Dockerson and portrayed the antagonist Damon ‘Harry’ Harris on Emmerdale in 1999.
Jane and Robert first crossed paths at the British Soap Awards in May 1999, where they instantly clicked. Reflecting on their initial meeting, Jane expressed her admiration for Robert, whom she had admired since her teenage years. The couple eventually tied the knot in 2005 and now share two children, Harry and Sam.
In an interview, Jane opened up about the longevity of their relationship, emphasizing the strong bond of friendship and love they share. She described Robert as her best friend and highlighted their ability to support each other as individuals while maintaining a harmonious partnership.
Celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary, Jane posted a heartfelt tribute to Robert on Instagram, which was met with warm wishes from her Corrie co-stars. The on-screen family showered the couple with love and congratulatory messages, showcasing their admiration for the enduring relationship between Jane and Robert.
