“Cyril Faces Prejudice in New Romance on Call the Midwife”

Published on

In the current storyline of Call the Midwife, Cyril Robinson finds himself in a poignant narrative facing prejudice due to his newfound romance with Nurse Rosalind Clifford. The ongoing fifteenth season of the BBC One series showcases the evolving relationship between Cyril (portrayed by Zephryn Taitte) and Lucille (played by Leonie Elliott) after their separation following Lucille’s sudden departure.

Lucille’s exit from the show in the twelfth season was driven by various factors, including her battle with depression and a desire to return to Jamaica amidst the prevailing anti-immigrant sentiment in Britain at the time.

A recent episode of Call the Midwife depicted a significant moment where Cyril met Rosalind’s parents, Major Clifford (David Bark-Jones) and Josephine (Natasha Joseph), for the first time over dinner. The encounter highlighted the racial tensions that surfaced, prompting Cyril and Rosalind to publicly affirm their love in defiance of the disapproval they faced.

Zephryn Taitte has portrayed Cyril in the BBC period drama since 2019, initially introduced as a compassionate mechanic and pastor who embarks on a relationship with Lucille, eventually marrying her in the 2021 Christmas Special. His character later transitions into a pivotal role as a social worker and child welfare officer, actively aiding the vulnerable residents of Poplar alongside the members of Nonnatus House.

The fourteenth season of the series left viewers mourning the unexpected demise of the beloved cat Nigel, a moment that tugged at the audience’s heartstrings.

Apart from his role in Call the Midwife, Zephryn has appeared in a variety of popular television shows, including The Hour and Brothers With No Game. His acting credits extend to Urban Myths, Doctors, Father Brown, and Unforgotten, as well as film roles in No Shade, Dirtymoney, and Daemon Mind. Additionally, Zephryn has showcased his talent on stage in productions such as The Man in the Green Jacket, The Tempest, and Nora: A Doll’s House.

Maintaining a private personal life, Zephryn’s current relationship status remains undisclosed as he prefers to keep that aspect of his life away from the public eye.

Call the Midwife airs on BBC One and iPlayer every Sunday at 8 pm.
