A deadly wildfire in Europe has resulted in the loss of at least 12 lives amidst scorching temperatures reaching 40C due to an ongoing heatwave. The tragic incident occurred in Los Gallardos, Spain, where some victims were found in burned vehicles, while six others sustained injuries. Witnesses have suggested that the wildfire was triggered by a fallen power line, although the official cause is yet to be confirmed. Over 150 firefighters have been mobilized to combat the flames in the area known as Bedar.

Antonio Sanz, the Minister of the Presidency, Health, and Emergencies, has declared a state of emergency and urged the public to avoid the affected zone. He emphasized the importance of following emergency service instructions and exercising caution to prevent any further risks.

The devastating blaze has claimed the lives of 12 individuals in southern Spain, where approximately 150 firefighters are tirelessly working to contain the massive wildfires. Initial reports indicate that the fire may have originated from a downed power line and rapidly spread through the forested region. Some of the deceased were discovered trapped in their vehicles as they attempted to escape via alternate routes.

The regional government of Andalusia confirmed the rising death toll, stating that the number of fatalities in the Los Gallardos fire has now reached 12. The relentless heatwave with temperatures soaring to 40C has fueled wildfires across various parts of southern Europe, leading to a challenging situation for firefighters and authorities.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed sorrow over the impact of the fires in Almería province, offering condolences to the bereaved families and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. He acknowledged the collaborative efforts of multiple agencies in battling the flames and urged the public to exercise utmost caution.

Minister Antonio Sanz described the fire as the most devastating in the region and labeled the situation as an unprecedented tragedy. The regional government of Andalusia reiterated the rising death toll in a morning statement, emphasizing the severity of the situation.
