In the face of skepticism, I am accustomed to hearing that certain things are unachievable. The doubts were voiced regarding the reopening of the Hillsborough inquiry and the re-regulation of buses in Manchester. Now, similar skepticism surrounds the idea of decentralizing power from Westminster.
Through my experience in politics, I’ve come to understand that the phrase “it can’t be done” often signifies a lack of effort rather than true impossibility. This week, we have defied such pessimism and demonstrated what can be accomplished by rejecting defeatist attitudes.

While these initiatives mark a beginning, our ultimate goal is to ensure that every individual not only survives but thrives. Achieving this requires a comprehensive, long-term approach that extends beyond mere policy changes and encompasses a fundamental shift in power dynamics.
I have established No10 North to rebalance decision-making across the nation and promote regeneration and industrial growth in all regions. Just as we have witnessed progress in Greater Manchester, I envision empowering all communities to revitalize their local economies and take pride in their towns.
Our decision to lower business rates for certain establishments is a testament to our commitment to supporting community pillars that foster unity and resilience. If we are serious about revitalizing our towns, we must prioritize the places that serve as their social anchors.
Though it has only been a week, we have implemented tax cuts, reduced expenses, decentralized power, and championed community support. While we have not resolved all of the nation’s challenges, this week serves as a reminder that government action can alleviate burdens and restore faith in the political process.
Despite naysayers, our achievements in Manchester and beyond stand as evidence that positive change is attainable. We are dedicated to reigniting belief in Britain and fostering a renewed sense of hope for the future.
