A father described as ‘amazing’ and devoted to his family tragically ended his life at a playground, an inquest revealed. The incident occurred in the early hours of August 8 at Boscawen Park in Truro, Cornwall, where 47-year-old Terry Howe was discovered unresponsive.

During the inquest held at Pydar House in Truro, it was disclosed that Terry, a forklift driver known for his altruism, had been battling low spirits in the weeks leading up to his death. Reports indicated that he had exhibited signs of paranoia following drug use during a night out, although he seemed content spending time with his family the night before the incident.

Testimonies from Terry’s wife, stepdaughter, mother, and sister highlighted his compassionate nature and selfless dedication to his loved ones. Described as a ‘fantastic husband’ and ‘amazing family man,’ Terry was remembered for his kindness and infectious joy he brought into their lives.

His wife, Danielle Howe, portrayed Terry as a dependable individual always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbors and family members. Despite the apparent happiness in their marriage, she revealed a decline in Terry’s mental well-being following a reported sexual assault by a surgeon at Royal Cornwall Hospital, an incident that deeply affected him.

On the night of his death, Terry had expressed thoughts of suicide and later left home after making a pot noodle for his son. His family found him unresponsive at the playground, where attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. Authorities confirmed no signs of foul play or external involvement in the case.

The coroner, Andrew Cox, concluded that Terry had deliberately taken his own life, attributing his decision to a combination of mental health struggles and recent drug use exacerbating his state of mind.
