Driver in London Car Attack Suspected of Attempted Murder

A woman was apprehended on suspicion of attempted murder following a vehicle striking pedestrians in central London during the early hours of Sunday. The Metropolitan Police disclosed that a woman in her 30s is in critical condition, while a man in his 50s sustained serious injuries after being hit by a car in Argyll Street, Westminster, around 4:30 am. Additionally, another woman in her 30s suffered minor injuries as per the authorities.

The driver of the car, a 29-year-old woman, was detained at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm, reckless driving, and driving under the influence. She is currently in police custody.

Law enforcement clarified that the occurrence, which transpired on a street in Soho where the London Palladium theater is situated, is not being treated as terrorism-related. Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell urged potential witnesses to come forward, expressing concern for the injured individuals and their families. Foxwell emphasized the significance of any details, no matter how insignificant they may seem, in aiding the investigation.

Individuals with pertinent information are urged to contact 101, quoting the reference number 1404/19APR. The incident, reported at approximately 4:30 am on Sunday, 19th April, prompted officers to respond to Argyll Street following reports of a vehicle colliding with pedestrians. Police, along with the London Ambulance Service, attended the scene. A woman in her 30s was transported to the hospital in critical condition, while a man in his 50s sustained life-altering injuries and was also hospitalized. Another woman in her 30s received treatment for minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old female, was arrested on-site for suspected attempted murder, causing GBH, reckless driving, and driving under the influence. She was taken into custody pending further inquiries. Authorities confirmed that the incident is not linked to terrorism.
