Tolan, 36, was captured on camera at Sheffield Crown Court, seemingly using his phone’s hands-free feature while wearing a smug expression.

Prior to his emotional breakdown in court, Tolan was observed engaging in light-hearted banter with others and carrying a large bag while awaiting his sentencing. The court ultimately handed him a nine-year jail term for the tragic incident that took place in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, on January 25, 2024, where he struck and fatally injured Ms. Smart while driving at 58 miles per hour without his required glasses.
