“Dubai Businessman Endures Torture and Wrongful Imprisonment”

Published on

In February 2019, Wolfgang Douglas received a disturbing call from his father, Albert Douglas, who had been missing for 10 days. The call confirmed the family’s worst fears – Albert had been captured while attempting to escape from Dubai and had endured traumatic abuse that left lasting scars.

Albert, a 63-year-old businessman with a history of dining with Dubai’s elite, claimed he was seized by UAE guards near the Oman border, taken to an undisclosed location with a bag over his head, and stripped. This was part of his desperate bid for freedom after being falsely accused of debts from a family member’s business, which he had no part in.

In the years leading up to his escape attempt, Albert faced daily blackmail and financial ruin. Allegations suggest that individuals with connections in the police force used pressure tactics to intimidate him, leading to fabricated charges and a rigged legal system against him.

Following his capture, Albert endured days of torture and beatings in squalid conditions, facing a five-year wrongful imprisonment for debts he did not owe. Despite being exonerated by the UN, Albert suffered in notorious UAE prisons, witnessing horrific abuses and enduring inhumane treatment.

The story resurfaced when Lee Andrews, husband of Katie Price, was accused of fabricating a similar ordeal. While Katie claimed Lee was kidnapped, it was later revealed that he was held for a civil matter in jail. Lee’s situation drew parallels to Albert’s harrowing experience, sparking outrage from Albert’s family.

Wolfgang, Albert’s son, highlighted the prevalence of financial entrapment in Dubai, recounting the distressing calls he received from trapped individuals seeking help in what he described as an “open air prison”. He criticized Lee for allegedly exploiting his father’s story for personal gain, calling him a “conman”.

Wolfgang, a vocal advocate for the Romani-Gypsy Movement, shared the challenges faced by ethnic minorities in Dubai, emphasizing the lack of free speech and oppressive legal practices. He warned of the risks expatriates face in Dubai’s volatile economic climate and highlighted the vulnerability of foreigners to financial disputes turned criminal cases.

The system in Dubai, according to Wolfgang, favors creditors over debtors, leading to unjust imprisonment and financial ruin. He and his father fought tirelessly for justice, spending millions in legal battles to expose torture and entrapment, ultimately seeking recourse through international human rights bodies.

Despite his father’s eventual return home, Wolfgang remains wary of Dubai’s legal system and the plight of trapped entrepreneurs facing similar struggles. He criticized the toxic environment in Dubai, driven by economic instability and abuse of power, urging caution to those considering business ventures in the region.
