The connection between Wimbledon and the Royal Family has always been significant, with the Duchess of Cambridge being a prominent figure at the Championships. As a devoted tennis enthusiast and patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, she has taken on the responsibility of presenting trophies to the singles champions, succeeding the Duke and Duchess of Kent.
Over the past few years, she has been a regular attendee at Wimbledon, often surprising fans in the queue by distributing tickets and processing payments. However, there was a particular year when she was advised against attending due to being heavily pregnant with Prince George, missing out on witnessing a historic victory by Sir Andy Murray in the men’s singles final.
Despite her eagerness to support Murray, she had to watch the match from home on that occasion. Three years later, in 2016, she had the opportunity to witness Murray clinch his second Wimbledon title, attending the final alongside Prince William and expressing her joy at his success.
During her recent visit to Wimbledon, the Duchess engaged in conversations with Sir Andy Murray and former British tennis star Anne Keothavong while watching a match on court one. They discussed their children, tennis, and the challenges of parenting, with Keothavong noting Kate’s genuine interest in the sport and admiration for the players’ skill and athleticism.
