Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and his co-star Catherine Laga’aia made an appearance along the River Thames in London today to promote Disney’s live-action version of the popular movie, Moana. The film is set to hit theaters on Friday, July 10, 2026, and is a modern take on the Oscar-nominated animated classic released in 2016.
In this upcoming film, Moana heeds the call of the Ocean and embarks on a journey beyond her island’s reef, Motunui, accompanied by the demigod Maui, portrayed by Dwayne Johnson.
To celebrate the movie’s promotion, a part of the Pacific culture was brought to London’s Potters Fields Park. The park was transformed into a Motunui-inspired paradise for a full day of immersive activities.
The event, attended by notable personalities such as Molly Rainford and Tyler West, featured director Thomas Kail and producer Auli’i Cravalho. Attendees were treated to various performances, including a well-coordinated dance of ‘We Know the Way’ by over 20 dancers from the London School of Hula and Ori, supported by a live Tahitian drumline.
The Disney Theatre Group also entertained the crowd with popular songs like ‘How Far I’ll Go’ and ‘You’re Welcome’, featuring cast members from the Hercules and The Lion King productions in the West End.
The venue showcased impressive displays, including a massive six-meter replica of Maui’s hook and a life-sized replica of Moana’s canoe, all against the backdrop of Tower Bridge.
Guests had the chance to engage in themed activities throughout the day, from petting pigs reminiscent of Pua to karaoke sessions and interactive leaf weaving workshops.
A special moment during the event was a surprise visit from students of St Gregory’s School in Colchester. Initially unaware of the occasion, the pupils were thrilled to be part of the festivities. These students gained attention on social media after posting a TikTok video requesting a response from Dwayne Johnson, who not only replied with a personalized video but also arranged for them to meet the stars in person.
