EDF is providing complimentary fans and energy credit this season to aid households facing financial challenges in staying cool. The company is introducing new Heatwave Relief Packs as part of a £1 million initiative to assist vulnerable customers during extreme summer temperatures.
Following the UK’s record-breaking June temperature of 37.7C and current heat health alerts in England, EDF aims to support up to 10,000 customers struggling to maintain a cool home, offering tailored assistance of up to £100. Identification of eligible households will be carried out by EDF through support teams, partner referrals, and direct customer interaction.
Joe Souto, EDF’s Retail Director, emphasized the importance of providing extra support to vulnerable households during high temperatures, ensuring they do not have to compromise between their health and financial constraints. The Heatwave Relief Packs are designed to offer practical aid to those most in need, alleviating concerns about the expenses related to essential cooling equipment.
In other news, energy bills have recently risen due to the Ofgem price cap increase of approximately 13% on July 1, affecting households paying via direct debit. The price cap adjustment will remain in effect until October, with expectations from Cornwall Insight indicating a typical household could face a bill of £1,849 during the autumn season as heating usage increases.
