Elton John’s partner, David Furnish, has provided an update on the iconic singer’s journey with blindness. Elton, aged 78, lost sight in one eye and experienced reduced vision in the other due to a severe eye infection in July 2024.

Recently, Elton disclosed that his vision impairment prevented him from engaging in activities like reading, watching, or creating new music. This limitation affected his ability to work on music projects and view his recent endeavors, such as the film “Elton John: Never Too Late” and his adaptation of “The Devil Wears Prada.”

In an interview with Variety, David Furnish mentioned that Elton is staying occupied by spending quality time with their family and remaining resilient amidst the challenges. He expressed contentment with their family life and shared their love for raising their sons, Zachary and Elijah.

Elton and David, who have been married since 2014 after a civil partnership in 2005, have two sons born through surrogacy. Elton described 2025 as a tough year due to health issues but remained optimistic about finding a cure for his vision problems.

Despite the difficulties, Elton emphasized hope for future advancements in science to aid his recovery. He encouraged perseverance and a proactive approach to overcome obstacles.

Elton’s battle with blindness became public in September 2024 when he disclosed details of his eye infection on Instagram. He expressed gratitude for his medical team and family’s support during his recovery process.

Acknowledging the challenges he faced, Elton attended the premiere of “Elton John: Never Too Late” in New York the following month, highlighting his resilience and determination to continue despite health setbacks.
