A fire incident during a United Airlines flight led to an emergency evacuation. The plane was en route from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Newark, New Jersey when air traffic control was alerted of a fire in the left engine. The aircraft safely returned and landed at LAX around 11:20 am local time. Smoke was visible coming from the engine while the plane was parked on the runway following the incident.
All 256 passengers and 12 crew members evacuated the aircraft using emergency slides and air stairs before being transferred to the terminal by bus, according to a statement from United Airlines. The airline assured that arrangements were being made to swiftly transport passengers to their final destinations. Only one individual sustained a minor finger injury, and there were no other reported injuries.
The Federal Aviation Agency confirmed that “United Airlines Flight 2127 landed safely back at Los Angeles International Airport due to a left engine issue.” The flight was bound for Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. The FAA announced an investigation into the incident and advised reaching out to the airline and airport for further details.
