A dedicated England supporter has decided to use his £40,000 house deposit to treat his father to an unforgettable experience of watching the Three Lions triumph in the World Cup. Jack Goodwin has meticulously planned and secured accommodations, flights, and tickets for all potential England matches, including the anticipated final in New Jersey on July 19.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Goodwin stated, “We’ve explored New York, witnessed the World Cup, and are determined to witness our victory. It’s a straightforward calculation.” The 34-year-old from Chichester, West Sussex, disclosed that he invested around £4,000 in a final match ticket, labeling the journey as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
Goodwin shared, “My father and I have been on this journey since Dallas. From Dallas to Boston, New York, and now Atlanta… with our eyes set on the final to witness our World Cup triumph.” Anticipating England’s crucial knockout match against the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Atlanta, he confidently predicted a 4-0 win and eagerly awaited the upcoming clash against Mexico at the Azteca stadium.
A devoted Stoke City fan, Goodwin admitted feeling anxious when Panama held England to a draw during the group stage. He explained, “We’ve secured everything up to the final – hotels, tickets, all sorted. The FIFA ballot determined our tickets, and we were relieved to top the group to ensure their validity.”
Revealing the trip’s funding details, Goodwin clarified that his tickets were acquired at face value but still incurred significant costs. “It’s been quite pricey. I had saved for a house, and I’ve used the entire deposit to embark on this journey with my father,” he shared, highlighting the total expenditure of approximately £40,000.
Describing the final match tickets’ cost as exorbitant, Goodwin criticized the pricing, mentioning the varying prices for different game categories. He emphasized the privileged position they held due to obtaining tickets through the England Supporters Club amidst others who were not as fortunate.
Reflecting on the journey so far, Goodwin expressed gratitude for the opportunity and acknowledged their luck in securing tickets, recognizing the challenges faced by many others attempting to attend the prestigious event.
