A young England football fan made a heartfelt decision to forego his £10,000 savings meant for a house deposit to fulfill a dream World Cup journey with his grandfather. Jacob Allmendinger, 21, expressed no regrets about redirecting his five years’ worth of savings towards an unforgettable trip with his 80-year-old grandad, Geoff Golliker. Despite initially saving up to buy a house, Jacob opted to postpone this goal to embark on a trip to the United States with his grandad this week.
In his words, Jacob mentioned that he believes he can always earn back the money, particularly at his age, where postponing homeownership for a couple of years is manageable. However, he emphasized the irreplaceable opportunity of experiencing the World Cup with his grandad. The duo, hailing from North Ferriby, East Yorkshire, is set to jet off on Friday for a whirlwind tour across North America, centered around supporting the English team in the World Cup.
Jacob highlighted the significance of football in their relationship, especially following the loss of his grandmother in 2020. Describing his bond with his grandad as beyond familial ties, Jacob emphasized their close friendship. Together, they avidly follow Hull City FC, attending matches both home and away. Their upcoming itinerary includes visits to various cities in North America as they track England’s World Cup journey.
While football is a key aspect of their adventure, Jacob underscored that the trip’s essence lies in the shared experience of exploring North America together. He expressed confidence in England’s prospects in the tournament, echoing his grandad’s quiet optimism. Retired insurance worker Geoff eagerly accepted the invitation and is increasingly excited as the trip draws closer.
England’s upcoming match against Panama, scheduled for Saturday, carries the potential to secure their advancement to the next round of the tournament. The subsequent matches are slated to commence the following week.
