Billionaire Jeffrey Epstein allocated $5 million (£3.6 million) from his substantial wealth to Ghislaine Maxwell, as per recently disclosed documents. The specifics of Epstein’s inheritance surfaced during a massive release of documents by the US Department of Justice, comprising over 3 million pages related to investigations and coverage of the deceased sex offender.
In a section labeled “Bequests” within Epstein’s will, he stipulated that $5 million would be bequeathed to Maxwell if she outlived him. Maxwell, a wealthy socialite incarcerated in 2022 for her involvement in Epstein’s exploitation of underage victims, was among nine beneficiaries designated to receive $5 million each upon Epstein’s demise.
The document also mentioned other beneficiaries, with Karyna Shuliak, Epstein’s reported last girlfriend, set to receive $5 million. Additionally, Epstein’s associate Jean-Luc Brunel, who passed away in a Paris prison cell in 2022, and his lawyer Darren Indyke were also slated to benefit from the same amount.
The release included a total of 3 million pages, featuring 180,000 images and 2,000 videos. Inclusion in the Epstein Files does not imply culpability. The Trump administration members have faced scrutiny for their handling of the document release. Initially advocating for the files’ disclosure, Trump later opposed Republicans pushing for it, surprising many who supported him for that purpose.
Under legal pressure, the government released the documents last year after bipartisan support compelled their public disclosure. Despite the deadline for public release being at the end of December, only a small fraction had been made public before the recent release. Epstein passed away in a New York City prison cell in 2019.
