An ex-police officer with deviant intentions has been imprisoned for secretly filming a minor while she was using the restroom. John Bishop, who served in law enforcement for thirty years, was found to possess a collection of disturbing images involving child abuse.
Upon sentencing the 88-year-old, the father of the victim expressed his disgust towards Bishop, stating, “You disgust me. I hope the shame eats you up inside for the rest of your life.” The Liverpool Crown Court revealed that a Microsoft account linked to Bishop’s IP address uploaded inappropriate content online, leading to a search warrant at his residence on November 20, 2024.
During the search, eight electronic devices were seized, and subsequent examination revealed that a Samsung mobile and a PC contained indecent images, including graphic material categorized under A, B, and C. Among these images were 26 category A pictures and videos depicting severe abuse, along with additional illicit content.
Fourteen images identified in the collection were traced back to Bishop capturing a young girl in a compromising situation in 2017. In a statement presented in court, the victim’s father condemned Bishop’s actions as despicable and labeled him as a sick individual, hoping that he would reflect on the harm caused.
Bishop, denying any illicit intent towards children during questioning, claimed his online activities were related to guitar lessons and digger searches due to cancer diagnosis. Despite his lack of prior convictions and community contributions, Bishop admitted to the charges of taking, possessing, and creating indecent images of children, leading to a 14-year imprisonment.
The sentencing judge considered Bishop’s age, health issues, and efforts at self-improvement but emphasized the severity of the offenses, resulting in immediate custody. Bishop was also issued a 10-year restraining order and a sexual harm prevention order, along with mandatory registration on the sex offenders’ list for a decade.
