A family in mourning was shocked when the urn they purchased from Amazon to hold their grandmother’s ashes turned out to contain someone else’s remains, marking their second unsettling encounter with human remains.
Dorthy Kupsis, the family matriarch, passed away at the age of 98 on May 27, leaving her loved ones devastated and in search of a suitable vessel for her ashes. Believing they had found the perfect urn for Dorthy, they ordered it from Amazon.
The heart-shaped urn, intended to honor their cherished grandmother, seemed pristine on the outside, giving no indication of the unexpected contents within. Upon opening it, Ashleigh Wegner discovered remnants inside, leading to a mix of shock, disgust, and discomfort.
Despite the urn’s appearance of newness, the presence of foreign ashes tainted it for the family, who deemed it unsuitable for the Arizona grandmother’s final resting place. Ashleigh reached out to Amazon and received a refund, also attempting to contact the seller without success, expressing concern about the item being resold to another unsuspecting buyer.
Interestingly, this was not Ashleigh’s first encounter with human remains. Previously, she and her husband stumbled upon abandoned ashes in an alley near their home, which they turned over to the authorities. The family connected to the ashes declined them, prompting Ashleigh and her husband to scatter them in the Arizona mountains.
Amazon has been approached for comment by the Mirror regarding this incident.
