A woman with jealousy and control issues subjected her girlfriend to a series of mental and physical abuses, ultimately leading to the girlfriend taking her own life shortly after reporting the incidents to the police.

The relationship between Kathryn White and Claire Alex began in August 2021 through the dating app Tinder but turned tumultuous by July 2022. An argument escalated to the point where White forcefully restrained Ms. Alex, threatened self-harm, confiscated her phone, preventing her from seeking help, and physically assaulted her.

After enduring 11 months of torment, Claire found the courage to inform the police about her distress, expressing that she felt shattered and lost due to White’s behavior. Tragically, four days later, Claire took her own life.

White, residing in Mayfield Mews, Crewe, denied allegations of controlling and coercive conduct but was convicted after a trial. The court deemed her actions as a prolonged and consistent pattern of both mental and physical abuse. Testimonies revealed instances of threats, including one where White menaced to stab Ms. Alex and physically attacked her outside her workplace for a minor interaction with a colleague.

During the sentencing, it was noted that White displayed a lack of remorse or empathy, despite her struggles with mental health issues. The judge sentenced her to three years and six months in prison for her actions.
