“Fatal Shooting by ICE Sparks Outrage in Minneapolis”

Published on

A man was fatally shot by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Minneapolis today, not far from where Renee Good tragically lost her life earlier this month. The close proximity of the incidents has sparked public outrage and drawn comparisons to the killing of Renée Good earlier this year.

The shooting took place approximately a mile from where 37-year-old Good was fatally shot on January 7 by an ICE officer. These events together create a disturbing pattern on the city map, both occurring amidst increased ICE presence under the Trump administration.

Specific details about Saturday’s shooting were not immediately available, but Minnesota Governor Tim Walz noted that the incident happened within the context of the administration’s immigration enforcement efforts. According to a hospital record obtained by The Associated Press, a 51-year-old man shot by immigration officers succumbed to his injuries.

Video clips of the incident quickly circulated online, showing a group of ICE agents wrestling the man to the ground before he was shot. The Department of Homeland Security reported that the man was armed with a firearm and two magazines, describing the situation as “evolving” and sharing a photo of the handgun found on the man.

Following Good’s death, Minneapolis experienced daily protests, and after Saturday’s shooting, hundreds of protesters gathered near the scene, confronting federal officers and chanting against ICE. The tense situation led to clashes between protesters and officers, with some demonstrators blocking streets and demanding the removal of ICE from the city.

The shooting occurred after a large demonstration against the federal immigration crackdown in Minneapolis, where thousands of protesters had gathered in cold weather to voice their opposition to the enforcement actions and call for law enforcement to depart from the city.

Governor Walz, a Democrat, reached out to President Donald Trump, urging him to halt what the Department of Homeland Security has termed its largest-ever immigration enforcement operation. The tragic events in close proximity, involving the deaths of a woman in her car and a man during an immigration enforcement encounter, have heightened scrutiny of federal agents’ use of force in Minneapolis and raised concerns about tactics employed in residential areas.
