A man lost his life when a tree fell onto a caravan during Storm Goretti’s impact on Cornwall. The tragic incident took place in the Mawgan area of Helston on Thursday evening, according to the Devon and Cornwall Police. The storm brought powerful winds reaching up to 99mph to the region.

The individual, in his 50s, passed away in the caravan, and authorities have notified his next of kin. The police have ruled out any suspicion surrounding the man’s death. An uncommon red wind warning was issued by the Met Office for parts of the South West on Thursday, alongside amber and yellow alerts for snow, ice, wind, and rain covering various regions in the UK.

Emergency responders were alerted to the scene in the Mawgan area of Helston at approximately 7:35 pm on Thursday, where efforts were made to safely remove the fallen tree. The police confirmed the unfortunate discovery of the deceased man inside the caravan. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and preparations are being made for the coroner’s investigation.

Yellow warnings for snow and ice remain in effect across significant parts of the UK for today and tomorrow. The Met Office anticipates a gradual improvement in weather conditions, offering a period of relief on Saturday with intermittent sunny intervals. Despite a brief calm period on Saturday, another weather system is expected to approach from the west on Sunday, potentially resulting in disruptive snowfall. Met Office Chief Forecaster Steve Willington mentioned the likelihood of 2-5cm snow accumulation in specified areas on Sunday, with higher ground possibly receiving 10-20cm. Areas previously impacted by heavy snowfall are at increased risk of ongoing disruptions. Southern England and Wales are predicted to receive rainfall on Sunday amid the wintry conditions affecting other regions.
