“Father and Son Rescued After 4 Days in Venezuelan Earthquake Debris”

Published on

A man and his son were successfully rescued from the debris of a collapsed building in Venezuela, marking four days since the region was hit by two earthquakes. The dramatic 12-hour operation took place in La Guaira, a heavily impacted coastal area.

The death toll has now surpassed 1,450, with numerous individuals sustaining injuries in the disaster. Search and rescue teams are tirelessly working to locate survivors, as thousands of people are still unaccounted for.

Prior to extracting the father and son, emergency responders prepared intravenous drips and scoured neighboring collapsed structures for any signs of life. Specialized search cameras were utilized to pinpoint their location before carefully removing the unstable rubble to reach them.

A member of the French Civil Security commented on the rescue, highlighting the challenges faced by the trapped individuals and the delicate extraction process. International assistance from the French Civil Security and the Fairfax County Urban Search and Rescue Team from the United States was crucial in the successful operation.

In a separate event, a mother and her infant were also rescued with minor injuries. Additionally, two 11-year-old boys, including one named Moises, were saved in separate operations over the weekend, evoking applause from the rescue teams.

Over 2,600 rescue workers from various countries are now part of the extensive search efforts, accompanied by nearly 140 trained search dogs. The ongoing aftershocks in Venezuela pose a continued risk of further damage, with recent quakes registering magnitudes of 4.2 and 4.5.

In the aftermath of the earthquakes, many individuals resorted to non-governmental digital platforms to report missing loved ones due to disrupted mobile networks. One such database lists over 50,000 missing persons, though the status of these individuals remains uncertain.

Despite the weekend’s 33 successful rescues, the diminishing hopes of finding more survivors signal the somber reality as the search operation enters its fifth day.
