A soon-to-be mother was forcibly pulled into a pond and nearly drowned by the father of her child after she had shared photos of them at their baby shower.
The pregnant teenager, who remains unidentified, posted pictures of herself and her baby’s father, Dominic Thomas, on Facebook. Instead of reacting positively to the images, Thomas became violently aggressive.
The 19-year-old father had been in a secret relationship with another woman and was concerned that she would see the photos of him and his pregnant girlfriend online. His concerns materialized when his secret partner discovered the images. Subsequently, Thomas, hailing from Kansas, USA, sent threatening messages to his child’s mother, stating his frustration with her presence in his life and his intention to act on it.
In a disturbing message, he assured her that his threats were promises and that he was indifferent to the consequences. Recently, Thomas was sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempted murder.
When the pregnant girlfriend, who was only 17 at the time, expressed her dismay at his words, Thomas callously dismissed her concerns. The young woman warned that if something happened to her, their unborn child would suffer the same fate. Thomas callously replied that the child would not perish along with her.
According to the police, the couple had been arguing after the girlfriend discovered Thomas’s hidden relationship with another woman. A police report revealed that after a baby shower, photos of the couple were uploaded on Facebook, leading to the confrontation.
The threatening messages were sent by Thomas just a day before he attempted to drown his partner in Wichita. On the day of the incident, Thomas suggested taking a walk with the teenager. They conversed at a local pond for about 20 minutes before Thomas began expressing his loneliness and desire to end his life.
The girlfriend recounted that Thomas mentioned consuming a whole pizza as his final meal before going to jail. He then proceeded to assault her, dragging her toward the pond and submerging her head underwater while she pleaded for mercy.
Later, Thomas admitted to the police that he ceased the attack when the girlfriend mentioned their child, as it affected him emotionally. However, he confessed to wanting to drown her due to the predicament he found himself in with the other woman he was involved with. Thomas, now 24, was convicted of attempted first-degree murder after a four-day trial in 2024.
