“FC Metz Young Talent Injured in Tragic Ski Resort Fire”

FC Metz young talent, Tahirys Dos Santos, sustained injuries during a fire incident in Crans-Montana on New Year’s Day, where 47 individuals lost their lives. Dos Santos, a 19-year-old player, was reportedly present at Le Constellation Bar in the Swiss ski resort when the fire outbreak occurred in the early hours of the morning.

Following the incident, the reserve player was flown to Germany for treatment of his burn injuries. FC Metz has since released a statement on their official website expressing their deep sorrow over Dos Santos’ situation. The club confirmed that Dos Santos, originally from Mont-Saint-Martin, was severely burned in the New Year’s Eve fire and is currently under medical care in Germany.

The club’s management, along with players, coaches, and staff, conveyed their shock and support to Dos Santos and his family during this challenging period. FC Metz is coordinating with medical authorities to facilitate Dos Santos’ transfer to Mercy Hospital near his residence, and updates on his status will be shared as necessary while urging privacy for Dos Santos and his family.

The tragic fire in Crans-Montana claimed the lives of at least 47 individuals, allegedly initiated by sparklers placed in champagne bottles. The bar owners are described as being utterly shocked as families continue to search for missing loved ones at the scene.

An image circulating on social media displays a section of the ceiling ablaze, indicating that a sparkler accidentally ignited the bar’s roof material. The fire rapidly spread throughout the establishment, which had undergone renovations in 2015.

Witnesses recounted how the bar erupted in flames within seconds, prompting occupants to evacuate through a narrow exit. Apart from the reported 47 fatalities, approximately 115 people, mostly teenagers and young adults, sustained injuries from burns and smoke inhalation.

Authorities labeled the blaze as an “embrasement generalise,” a term in French firefighting describing a scenario where a fire triggers the release of combustible gases, leading to a violent ignition similar to a flashover or backdraft in English-speaking firefighting terms.

Victims with severe injuries were transported to specialized hospitals across Switzerland, with authorities cautioning the public to exercise care to avoid additional accidents that could strain already overwhelmed medical facilities.

In response to the tragedy, King Charles III expressed profound sadness over the fire incident at the resort in a message to the Swiss President. The monarch extended sympathy to those affected by the disaster, acknowledging the heroic efforts of first responders and emergency services and offering condolences to the families of the deceased and those critically injured.
