Fern Britton Triumphs Over Chronic Migraines

Published on

Fern Britton recently shared details about her health journey, disclosing her battle with chronic migraines while making positive lifestyle changes to enhance her well-being. The 68-year-old TV host spoke about her health on the Postcards From Midlife podcast, highlighting her improved state of mind and body following modifications to her daily routine.

Approaching her upcoming 70th birthday, Fern expressed, “Well, very recently, I feel that I’ve somehow stepped back out into the light, you know?” She attributed this transformation to various adjustments, such as transitioning to a new hormone replacement therapy and using testosterone gel as recommended by her doctor.

In addition to these changes, Fern mentioned that she had scaled down her alcohol intake, minimized caffeine consumption, and focused on enhancing her sleep quality after being diagnosed with chronic migraines. She clarified, “I was also recently diagnosed with chronic migraines. But they’re not like migraines, so I don’t know. It’s just that I used to get a very fuzzy head and headaches, but nothing that would put me to bed, you know?”

The broadcaster noted a significant improvement in her symptoms in recent weeks, stating, “But all the fuzziness has disappeared, and I haven’t had a headache since I started, so it’s been about six weeks.” Emphasizing the importance of prioritizing physical and mental well-being, Fern underscored, “I think, for everybody, well-being in your mind and body is key, and everything else is a bonus. I’m not interested in trying to prolong my life. I don’t want that; I just want to live.”

Her latest remarks follow her recent discussion about overhauling her diet and the positive impact on her weight loss journey. During the podcast, Fern shared that she reevaluated her eating habits after realizing that frequent snacking was not conducive to her health. She also confessed to developing a strong craving for sugary treats over time.

“I realized how much sugar I was consuming. I’m addicted to sugar and, funnily enough, if you’re not eating doughnuts, biscuits, cake, or jam, it makes you feel a lot better. So now, if I eat sugar, it’s too sweet for me because I used to be able to tolerate an awful lot,” she explained. Fern likened her reduced tolerance for sugary foods to her changing attitude towards cigarette smoke.

The seasoned TV personality, recognized for her work on shows like BBC Breakfast, Ready Steady Cook, This Morning, and Celebrity Big Brother, shared that these changes have contributed to her feeling better both physically and mentally as she embarks on a new phase in life.
