A fire broke out on Brooklyn Bridge following a July 4 fireworks display in New York City. Video footage of the event captured workers in high-visibility jackets attempting to extinguish the blaze.
The vibrant fireworks show illuminated the night sky of New York City, but it was interrupted as efforts were made to control the fire. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage to the iconic bridge remain unclear.
Emergency lights flashed near the scene, and water was sprayed towards the fire to contain it, located on the side of the East River. Witnesses expressed concern, with one mentioning the fire during the America250 Independence Day celebrations and emergency crews responding to the situation.
In a separate event in Washington, severe weather disrupted the festivities commemorating America’s 250th anniversary of independence. Storms led to the evacuation of the National Mall for approximately two hours, though President Donald Trump confirmed his intention to deliver a speech later in the evening.
Trump expressed determination not to let rain dampen the anniversary celebrations, planning to address the audience around 11pm local time.
