A fire has broken out at the air traffic control tower of an airport, causing travel disruptions with flights being stopped.

New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport is currently experiencing a complete ground stop due to a fire near the air traffic control tower.

This airport is renowned as one of the busiest and largest airport systems in the United States, catering to the New York City metropolitan area and accommodating millions of passengers annually.

The ground stop is expected to last until 8:30 a.m. local time, with flights being held in the meantime as reported by ABC News.

ABC News has informed that the Newark Airport air traffic tower is being evacuated because of smoke, and air traffic controllers are relocating to an alternative facility on the premises.
