A fire erupted at a luxurious hotel in the exclusive ski destination of Courchevel. Over 60 firefighters and 42 vehicles are currently battling the fire at the Grandes Alpes Hotel in Savoie, located in the French Alps. The blaze began just before 7pm on Tuesday, leading to the evacuation and relocation of 83 individuals with no reported injuries.
The fire is spreading on the intricate roof of the building, posing a significant risk to neighboring structures, as stated by Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Viaud of the Savoie Fire and Rescue Service. Firefighters are facing challenges in controlling the fire due to the heavy snow covering the roof, hampering their efforts to locate smoke vents.
Hotel management has confirmed that all guests have been safely evacuated and are being looked after. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
This incident follows a tragic fire at Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, a Swiss ski resort, on New Year’s Day, resulting in the loss of 40 lives, mostly teenagers, and injuring 116 others.
Jacques Moretti, 49, and his wife Jessica, 40, who own the bar, are under suspicion of negligent behavior leading to the fire. Mr. Moretti was briefly detained on January 9 but was released on bail with strict conditions.
