A 28-year-old football player and soon-to-be father tragically passed away after collapsing during a football training session with his brother. Maciej Białas had completed the training and was with his twin brother when he suddenly felt unwell, collapsed, and lost consciousness. His brother, Mateusz, promptly initiated resuscitation efforts, and there was a brief moment of hope when Maciej’s heart restarted after the incident on Saturday.

Emergency medical services swiftly transported him to the hospital, where doctors successfully removed a clot that had triggered a heart attack. Despite his heart resuming normal function, his brain had suffered prolonged oxygen deprivation, resulting in irreversible brain damage.

Maciej, along with his wife Wiktoria, was expecting a child, with the pregnancy in its fourth month at the time of his passing. The unborn child’s gender was revealed to be a boy posthumously. His funeral will take place in Gniezno, located east of Poznań, Poland, tomorrow. Maciej had played for various clubs, including Mieszko Gniezno and the seventh-tier team Kolejarz Czeremcha.

Kolejarz Czeremcha paid tribute to Maciej, describing him as a son, husband, brother, colleague, and friend, highlighting his exceptional qualities both on and off the field. The team emphasized his dedication, ambition, and unwavering commitment to giving his all in training and matches, serving as an inspiration to many.

In a separate incident, a father issued a cautionary message to travelers following the tragic death of his son during a flight to Bulgaria. Chris Neill, 40, and his two sons, Reece, 20, and Archie, nine, were en route from Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport to Burgas when Chris fell severely ill mid-flight. His parents, Mal and Lesley, launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover the repatriation costs.

The fundraising efforts exceeded expectations, raising nearly £10,000 surpassing the £15,000 target. The surplus funds were allocated to a trust fund for Chris’s two sons after his body was repatriated. Mal flew to Germany the next day to accompany Reece and Archie back to the UK, ensuring their safe return while handling the necessary procedures in Cologne with the coroner.

Mal disclosed that Chris had believed he had travel insurance through his bank, Halifax, which had unfortunately lapsed, underscoring the importance of ensuring proper insurance coverage for travel emergencies.
