Former BBC News anchor Kate Silverton is mourning the loss of her mother, Patricia, who passed away earlier this month. The Strictly Come Dancing personality, who joined BBC News in 2007, shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, revealing that she had been anticipating this moment for a long time.
Expressing her love for her mother, Kate, aged 55, reflected on Patricia’s battle with pancreatic cancer, which began last summer. Patricia, 83, initially declined treatment but later opted for a clinical trial, undergoing chemotherapy and immunotherapy with courage and determination.
Despite the initial progress seen with the treatment, Patricia succumbed to the illness on April 8. Grateful for the time spent with her mother, Kate acknowledged how fortunate she and her sisters, Amy and Claire, were to have had their mother by their side.
Kate opened up about the complexities of her relationship with Patricia, sharing that therapy had helped them mend past difficulties and cultivate a deep bond in their later years. She fondly remembered her mother for her laughter, style, intelligence, and unwavering love for her family.
In a touching tribute, Kate bid farewell to her mother, sending her off with love and mentioning her late father, Terry, who passed away from cancer in 2015. Besides her broadcasting career, Kate, who studied Psychology at Durham University, also participated in Strictly Come Dancing in 2018.
