Former pop star Gary Glitter, a convicted paedophile, has been questioned by police regarding alleged sexual offenses involving a girl under 14 years old. The incidents are said to have occurred during the late 1970s and early 1980s at a residence in Kensington, west London. Glitter, also known as Paul Gadd, was interviewed in prison after a complaint was lodged on January 9, 2025.
Currently held at category C HMP Channings Wood in Devon, Glitter is serving a 16-year sentence since 2015 for sexually abusing three schoolgirls between 1975 and 1980, with his release scheduled for 2031.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that an elderly man was questioned in July 2025 in connection with the reported offenses. The investigation is ongoing, and specialized officers are assisting the victim. The police emphasized their commitment to supporting individuals reporting historical sexual offenses, highlighting the increase in charges related to child sexual exploitation due to enhanced safeguarding measures and victim support training.
Glitter was released from HMP The Verne in February 2023 but was swiftly returned to prison for violating his parole conditions by attempting to access illicit online content and viewing inappropriate images shortly after his release.
Despite his efforts to secure release, Glitter’s parole was denied following a review by the Parole Board in June of the previous year. His initial arrest and subsequent incarceration in 2015 were part of Operation Yewtree, a Metropolitan Police initiative initiated post the Jimmy Savile scandal.
He was the first individual apprehended under Operation Yewtree when taken into custody at his London residence in October 2012.
