A former Conservative Member of Parliament has been formally accused of drug offenses involving the possession of controlled substances classified as Class A and Class B.

Crispin Blunt, who represented Reigate in Parliament from 1997 to 2024, is set to face four charges in court next week following his arrest in 2023 in connection with a separate incident, as confirmed by the Crown Prosecution Service.

The allegations against Mr. Blunt, who previously held a junior ministerial position during David Cameron’s tenure and chaired the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, include one charge of possessing a Class A drug and three additional charges related to Class B substances.

According to Malcolm McHaffie, the Head of the Crown Prosecution Service’s Special Crime Division, the decision to press charges against Crispin Blunt, aged 65, was based on evidence gathered during a police visit to his residence in Horley on October 25, 2023. The prosecution emphasized the importance of upholding the defendant’s right to a fair trial and cautioned against any forms of reporting or online sharing that could potentially prejudice the legal proceedings.

The specific substances involved in the case are alleged to be methylamphetamine for the Class A category, and GBL, cannabis, and amphetamine for the Class B group. Mr. Blunt is scheduled to make his court appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on March 25.
