Boyan Chowdhury, a founding member of the band, was assaulted with a piece of wood in the Wavertree area of Liverpool, resulting in a head injury. The attack took place around 2 pm on a Saturday, and Chowdhury shared details of his injuries on social media, expressing gratitude for narrowly avoiding a potentially fatal blow.

Merseyside Police confirmed that the assault involved racial abuse and an altercation with a group of men. Detective Inspector Debra Morley condemned the attack, emphasizing that such violence and hate crimes have no place in the community. Chowdhury, known for his role in The Zutons’ early lineup, departed from the band in 2007 due to musical differences.
