Four teenagers are facing charges in connection with a serious rape case following an alleged sexual assault on a woman at a residence in Weston-Super-Mare. The group, consisting of a 19-year-old, an 18-year-old, and two 17-year-olds, were apprehended and charged after a specialized investigation by Avon and Somerset Police into a severe sexual offense.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, June 21, where the woman was purportedly threatened, raped, and confined at the location. Tommy Campbell, 19, from Weston-Super-Mare, is charged with multiple counts of rape, sexual assault, false imprisonment, and assault causing bodily harm. Rio Welling, 18, also from Weston-Super-Mare, faces charges of rape and false imprisonment.
Two of the 17-year-old suspects have been charged with various offenses including rape, false imprisonment, and assault causing bodily harm. Due to legal constraints, their identities are protected. All four individuals have been detained and are scheduled to appear at Taunton Magistrates’ Court on July 11.
Detective Inspector Natalie Thatcher remarked on the case, noting the significant progress made in the investigation. Specially trained officers are supporting the victim throughout the process. The coordinated arrests in Weston and Worle were conducted to address the incident, with authorities appreciating the public’s understanding during the investigative procedures.
