Bradley Walsh, known for hosting The Chase, faced an unexpected dismissal early in his career which ultimately propelled him towards television success. A prominent figure in British TV, the beloved presenter leads various popular programs like ITV’s quiz show, Gladiators, Blankety Blank, and the travel series Breaking Dad, where he stars alongside his son, Barney Walsh.
Before venturing into showbiz, the 65-year-old began as an apprentice jet engineer at Rolls Royce, transitioning to a brief stint as a football player for Brentford FC before an injury cut short his promising sports career. Bradley’s entertainment journey began as a bluecoat entertainer at Pontins, following previous dismissals for “messing around” in school and previous jobs.
Reflecting on his early days, Bradley shared, “Once I left that to get into the entertainment industry and become a blue coat, I got sacked from being the bloke that was messing around.” Embracing stand-up comedy as a deliberate choice, he developed a physical comedic style akin to Norman Wisdom, marking the start of his entertainment path.
Beyond his renowned singing abilities, Bradley has showcased his talents as a comedian, actor, and host for over two decades. Notable roles include Danny Baldwin in Coronation Street, DS Ronnie Brooks in Law and Order: UK, and Graham O’Brien in BBC One’s Doctor Who.
In 2009, Bradley’s career took a significant turn when he assumed hosting duties for ITV’s quiz program, The Chase. Recalling the opportunity, he recounted walking into the ITV building and inquiring about presenting roles, eventually leading to his involvement in The Chase after a pivotal discussion with the head of daytime television.
Recently, reports suggested a hiatus for The Chase with no new episodes planned for at least a year. However, ITV clarified that The Chase just completed series 19 recordings for the year, assuring viewers of a continued mix of new and repeat episodes. Furthermore, viewers can anticipate a new Beat the Chasers for 2026 and a forthcoming spin-off series, The Chase Around the World.
Don’t miss The Chase airing today at 5pm on ITV and ITVX, followed by Bradley & Barney Walsh: Breaking Dad at 7.30pm on the same platforms.
