Georgia Toffolo shared a heartfelt account of evacuating Cap Ferret with her husband just before wildfires erupted in the region, prompting the evacuation of tens of thousands. Amid the ongoing firefighting efforts in France’s Gironde region, the former Made in Chelsea star, aged 31, who tied the knot with BrewDog co-founder James Watt, 44, in March 2025, took to social media to express concern for those affected by the crisis.

In a video on her Instagram Stories, she revealed, “We were vacationing in Cap Ferret and had to swiftly leave after becoming aware of the escalating situation caused by the wildfires.” Toffolo, who is also a stepmother to James’ daughters, informed her 1.8 million followers that they hastily packed up and departed on a boat to Iceland as a precautionary measure.

Detailing the harrowing experience, she recounted, “Despite initially monitoring the fire from a distance, we made the decision to leave when the situation worsened rapidly. We were fortunate to depart before the mass evacuation of Cap Ferret took place in the early hours of the following day.”

The wildfires have ravaged approximately 10,000 hectares of land, equivalent to about one and a half times the size of Manhattan. President Emmanuel Macron of France has sought assistance from the European Union’s civil protection mechanism to combat the intense crisis. This year’s land devastation across EU countries due to fires is reported to be the second largest on record, according to the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS).
