“Ghost School Markings Spark Confusion in Staffordshire”

Published on

Residents of a residential street in Longton, Staffordshire, were surprised to see bright yellow ‘School Keep Clear’ markings painted on the road last week. The markings were placed in front of homes where a school had not existed for 15 years. The now-closed Edensor Technology College, which used to be in the area, merged with another school in 2011. Homeowners expressed concern over the mistake and questioned who would be responsible for rectifying it.

Locals pointed out that not only had the school been absent for 15 years, but the workers had also painted the ‘S’ upside down. They criticized the Stoke-on-Trent City Council for resurfacing a road that did not require maintenance while neglecting neighboring streets with potholes.

Ali Hassan, a nearby resident, emphasized that the absence of a school in the area was evident for over a decade. He raised questions about the cost of correcting the error and demanded accountability from the council for the oversight.

Residents took to social media to express frustration over the situation, with many highlighting the incorrectly painted ‘School Keep Clear’ sign. Stoke-on-Trent City Council leader Jane Ashworth issued an apology to residents, acknowledging the error and committing to investigating the matter. She assured that parking enforcement would not target drivers on the wrongly marked street.
