A tragic incident occurred at the Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Paris, Illinois, where a golf course worker, Jay Roush, aged 64, lost his life in a horrifying accident involving a lawn mower. Authorities received reports of an unresponsive employee trapped beneath the mower in a water hazard. Upon arrival, emergency responders confirmed Mr. Roush’s passing at the scene.
The circumstances leading to Mr. Roush’s entrapment in the pond remain unclear. An inquiry revealed that a colleague initiated a search for him after failed attempts to reach him by phone, ultimately locating him submerged with the mower in shallow water.
The Edgar County Coroner’s Office officially identified the deceased as Mr. Roush, who resided in Vermillion. The 18-hole Eagle Ridge Golf Course, situated approximately three hours south of Chicago, is renowned for its challenging terrain.
Scheduled for Tuesday in Springfield, Illinois, an autopsy will provide further insight into Mr. Roush’s demise. Both the coroner’s office and the Edgar County Sheriff’s Department are actively investigating the incident.
According to a public obituary, Mr. Roush, a former GE Aerospace inspector with over three decades of service, was a dedicated golfer and slow-pitch softball enthusiast. He was also remembered for his mentoring roles in local youth baseball, soccer, and basketball, in addition to his active involvement in the community and church.
Described as a vibrant and sociable individual, Mr. Roush’s passing elicited heartfelt tributes from family and friends ahead of his funeral service. Fondly remembered for his irreplaceable presence, he leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that touched many lives.
