Paul Hollywood was recently caught speeding on the M25 while rushing to take his cat to the vet. The 60-year-old star of The Great British Bake Off was accused of tailgating other vehicles and was recorded driving at 96 mph in his Land Rover Defender. Upon being stopped by the police, Paul explained that he was on his way to seek medical attention for his unwell cat.
He admitted guilt to the speeding charge and received five penalty points on his driving license. Additionally, he was fined £239 along with £120 in costs and a £117 victim surcharge by the Worthing Magistrates Court. According to The Sun, a second charge of driving without due care and attention was dismissed after Paul’s legal team intervened.
Court documents revealed that Paul’s vehicle was observed speeding on the motorway around 3:20 pm on January 9 by PC Alexander McAlpine from Surrey Police. The officer stated that Paul’s driving behavior involved aggressively tailgating vehicles and overtaking in an unsafe manner.
Despite heavy traffic and damp road conditions, Paul reportedly reached speeds of approximately 100 mph on the M25 before transitioning to the M26, where he was able to drive at even higher speeds. PC McAlpine noted that Paul continued to drive aggressively, tailgating vehicles closely and making sudden accelerations.
In his statement, the officer mentioned that Paul justified his urgent driving due to the need to transport his unwell cat. The Mirror reached out to Paul’s representative for further comments on the incident.
