Football icon Harry Redknapp recently shared insights into his short trial experience for the hit show Strictly Come Dancing with professional dancer Amy Dowden. The former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! winner was offered a coveted spot on the BBC ballroom competition and even attempted the Cha Cha Cha during a trial run.
Producers arranged for Amy to visit Harry at his home for an audition to assess his confidence and suitability for the show. Despite the opportunity, the 79-year-old ex-football manager quickly realized that the glitzy program was not his cup of tea and politely declined.
During a chat at Shoreditch’s Ruffians Barber Shop for World Cuts, an event by Viagogo and Ruffian, Harry described Amy as a “lovely girl” and expressed concern for her health battles, particularly her triumph over breast cancer. He ultimately decided that Strictly was not his forte, joking about his lack of dance skills to his wife.
In a surprising turn of events, the original audition location was changed to Harry’s kitchen due to his discomfort, leading to an unsuccessful Cha Cha Cha attempt. Following multiple missteps, Harry humorously admitted his lack of dancing prowess and his realization that the show was not a fit for him.
Amy, on the other hand, is making a comeback to the Strictly ballroom this year after facing a challenging period on the program, including a hiatus due to breast cancer and an early departure with JB Gill. The upcoming 2026 series boasts confirmed names like Lacey Turner, Dani Dyer, Delta Goodrem, and Chris Appleton, with more announcements on the horizon.
Tonight, on Celebrity Gogglebox, viewers can catch Amy and her Strictly colleague Carlos Gu sharing their insights on the week’s TV highlights from the comfort of their sofa. Celebrity Gogglebox airs on Channel 4 at 9pm.
