Harvey Weinstein reportedly rushed to the hospital due to acute heart failure during his incarceration. The disgraced Hollywood producer has been held at Riker’s Island in Queens, New York, since 2020, awaiting sentencing for a 2025 sexual assault conviction.
Reports indicate that the 74-year-old experienced breathing difficulties and was quickly transferred to Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward in Manhattan. Sources revealed that he has been undergoing treatment, including being connected to an IV and a heart monitor, and receiving antibiotics for pneumonia.
According to TMZ, Weinstein’s condition has improved, but he has not been cleared to leave the medical facility. Throughout his time in prison, Weinstein has faced various health challenges, including emergency heart surgery for chest pains, hospitalization for pneumonia and Covid in 2024, and a diagnosis of chronic myeloid leukemia.
Weinstein, who has been accused by over 100 women of sexual assault and harassment, sparked the #MeToo movement in 2017. He has consistently denied all allegations of non-consensual sexual activities. While facing legal charges in New York and LA, Weinstein has been convicted of some charges and acquitted of others.
In 2020, Weinstein’s initial sexual assault conviction was overturned, leading to subsequent mistrials. Prosecutors in New York recently announced they would not pursue further rape charges against him. In 2023, he received a 16-year prison sentence in California for rape and sexual assault. However, he awaits sentencing in New York before serving his California sentence.
The National Cancer Institute describes Weinstein’s chronic myeloid leukemia as a condition where the bone marrow produces an excessive amount of abnormal blood cells.
