BBC actor Finnian Garbutt has transitioned to hospice care after being diagnosed with melanoma in 2021. The 28-year-old, renowned for his role as PC Ryan Power in the police series Hope Street, shared the sad news with his social media followers recently.
In late 2020, Finnian noticed a lump behind his ear, initially mistaking it for an in-grown hair. However, upon visiting his barber post-lockdown, concerns were raised as the lump had significantly grown.
The heartbreaking revelation of his terminal cancer diagnosis emerged in 2024, merely two weeks before the birth of his daughter Saoirse. Since then, Finnian has utilized his public platform to raise awareness about the disease, especially among young individuals.
Posting a photo from his hospital bed, Finnian expressed gratitude to those who have supported him and his family. He announced discontinuing the sharing of his GoFundMe page but highlighted its continued activity in his bio, concluding with a message of love and appreciation.
Setting up a fundraising page earlier in the month, the BBC actor informed followers about the rapid progression of his cancer and entering the final stages of his life. In a heartfelt message, he thanked everyone for the overwhelming support and emphasized his main goal of ensuring a good life for his wife and child, acknowledging their future without him.
Finnian emphasized that any contributions would significantly aid his family in coping with life after his passing and securing a bright future for Saoirse while maintaining their safety and stability at home.
The ongoing fundraising efforts have garnered £83,377, inching closer to the £90,000 target set.
