A mural paying tribute to the late music icon Gary “Mani” Mounfield, known for his contributions to Stone Roses and Primal Scream, is currently in progress. The mural will decorate Lafadi’s Pub on Oldham Road in Failsworth, Greater Manchester, where Mounfield grew up. Artist Pic.One.Art is anticipated to finish the artwork within a week.
The initiative, led by Grit Studios, is a community-driven project inspired by Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown’s wish for a statue honoring his former bandmate. John Macaulay, co-founder of Grit Studios, expressed admiration for Mani’s character and emphasized the impact of their past collaborations.
Funds raised for the mural will also benefit Maggie’s, a cancer charity that supported Mani’s wife during her illness. The project’s location holds sentimental value as it was where Mani had deep connections. Artist Pic.One.Art shared excitement for the project, highlighting the significance of celebrating Mani’s life through art.
Mani passed away at the age of 63 in November last year due to respiratory complications from emphysema. His legacy includes his work with Stone Roses and Primal Scream, leaving an indelible mark on the music industry. His family and fans continue to honor his memory through various tributes and initiatives.
