Bonnie Tyler, the renowned singer famous for “Holding Out for a Hero,” has passed away at the age of 75, as confirmed by her official website. The statement released on the website announced her unexpected death in a hospital in Portugal due to an illness she was undergoing treatment for.
In a statement issued on Thursday morning, her family and team expressed their heartbreak over Bonnie’s passing and requested privacy to cope with the tragic event. Earlier this year, the singer, hailing from Skewen in south Wales, was placed in a medically induced coma following emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal. Although she had come out of the coma in June, she remained in critical condition and under intensive care.
Three years before her demise, Bonnie shared in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk that she and the late music icon Meat Loaf, also known as Michael Lee Aday, had resolved any past disagreements. She revealed that Meat Loaf and the legendary songwriter Jim Steinman had a falling out when the iconic track “Total Eclipse of the Heart” was offered to her instead of him.
Recalling her interactions with Meat Loaf, Bonnie humorously mentioned how he would jokingly express his frustration that the song was initially intended for him. Despite the playful banter, she clarified that the track was given to her after Meat Loaf lost his voice, setting the record straight on previous reports.
Bonnie also paid a heartfelt tribute to Meat Loaf upon his passing at the age of 74, expressing her shock and sadness at the news. She highlighted the inspiration she drew from his music and the privilege of working with him and Jim Steinman on the album “Heaven and Hell.” She described Meat Loaf as a unique talent and personality with a lasting impact on his fans worldwide.
