“Iran to Enforce Exclusion Zone in Strait of Hormuz”

Published on

Iran’s new head of the Supreme National Security Council has announced plans to establish an “exclusion zone” outside the Strait of Hormuz to monitor vessels attempting to pass through. This decision follows the recent U.S. strike on three Iranian oil tankers in response to Tehran’s ballistic missile launch towards American warships, which experts view as a dangerous escalation in the ongoing conflict.

The exclusion zone, set to be enforced in the coming days and weeks, will extend from the U.S. naval blockade line towards the Strait of Hormuz and into the Persian Gulf. Vessels identified within this zone with intentions to transit the Strait of Hormuz will face sanctions from Iran.

The exact location of the U.S. blockade, aimed at Iranian ports to restrict oil shipments, has not been specified by Iran. The U.S. military reported over 20 warships supporting the blockade, redirecting 92 commercial ships and disabling three as of the latest update on Sunday.

Amidst the heightened tensions, Iran claims to have targeted a U.S. vessel attempting to enter the Strait of Hormuz, a claim dismissed by the U.S. military. The conflict has reignited with both sides engaging in attacks and counterattacks, further escalating the situation.

The Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil and gas transport, remains a focal point in the conflict. The U.S. Energy Secretary highlighted the significance of the strait, stating that an average of nine million barrels of oil per day pass through it, potentially easing energy price pressures.

Despite the collapsed negotiations and ongoing hostilities, Iran’s leadership remains steadfast, indicating a willingness to endure sanctions and maintain its oil trade. The conflict shows no signs of resolution as both sides continue to navigate the complex geopolitical landscape.
