Iran Warns of Potential US Attacks on Power Plants

Published on

Iran’s power plants are in the crosshairs of potential US attacks, says Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Iranian Parliament Speaker. This warning follows President Trump’s ultimatum to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours or face obliteration of Tehran’s power grid by US missiles. The escalating conflict, which began on February 28 with Iran blocking the crucial global commerce route, has heightened tensions.

Ghalibaf cautioned that if US strikes hit Iran’s power facilities, critical infrastructure, energy assets, and oil installations in the region would become viable targets for destruction, leading to a prolonged surge in global oil prices. The UK Ministry of Defence condemned Iran’s aggressive actions, citing an attempted strike on the UK-US base at Diego Garcia. Fortunately, the base escaped damage as one missile malfunctioned, and the other was intercepted by a US warship.

Meanwhile, UK-US relations face strain as Iran lashes out against the UK’s decision to allow the US to use British bases for potential strikes on Iranian sites targeting the Strait of Hormuz. In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticized the UK for jeopardizing British lives. The conflict’s ripple effects are felt in Lebanon, where Israeli attacks claimed four lives and injured seven in Sultaniyeh and Marjeyoun.

The situation further escalates with the UAE intercepting four ballistic missiles and countering 25 drones launched from Tehran. Amid the mounting tensions, concerns arise in Britain about potential food and fuel shortages. Housing Minister Steve Reed emphasizes the need for preparedness, assuring the public of continuous monitoring and readiness for any situation.

As the crisis unfolds, global leaders engage in diplomatic maneuvers. Ukraine’s President Zelensky advocates for dialogue between key stakeholders to strengthen Nato unity and global defense. Amidst the chaos, internet blackout persists in Iran, marking an unprecedented 23rd day of restricted access. Ali Mousavi, Iran’s representative to the International Maritime Organization, asserts the Strait of Hormuz remains open to all but “Iran’s enemies,” emphasizing diplomacy as Iran’s priority.

The stakes are high as the conflict intensifies, with the international community closely monitoring developments. The potential involvement of Japan in mine sweeping in the Strait of Hormuz hints at broader implications. The US, under President Trump’s directive, maintains a strict stance, threatening severe repercussions if Iran fails to comply with demands. The G7 nations issue a stern warning to Iran, condemning its attacks and affirming readiness to safeguard global energy supplies.

As tensions peak, Iranian missile strikes on Israel’s Dimona spark a new phase of conflict. Iranian Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf claims Israel’s airspace vulnerability, signaling a shift in battle dynamics. The situation worsens with air attacks reported in Tehran, Karaj, and Isfahan, raising concerns about escalating violence. The IAEA provides updates on the Dimona incident, highlighting the need for military restraint near nuclear facilities.

Amid the chaos, public sentiment diverges, with protests in London denouncing US and Israeli actions against Iran, while a smaller demonstration expresses gratitude for intervention. The evolving crisis underscores the fragility of regional stability and the urgent need for diplomatic resolutions to avert further escalation.
