A woman who had always felt like she didn’t fit in with her family has uncovered a shocking truth after 30 years. Despite her mother’s insistence that she was not adopted, Sasha Szafranski discovered through genealogy tracking on Ancestry.com that she was not biologically related to her parents. The revelation came after she was searching for information about her father’s Polish heritage.
Living in Coffs Harbour, Australia, Sasha learned that the wrong embryo had been implanted into her mother during her last round of IVF, resulting in her being born to the wrong biological parents. This mix-up led to Sasha discovering a previously unknown sister and aunt living in her town.
Upon contacting her aunt online, Sasha confirmed that she and her twin sister were conceived via IVF. Despite the shocking revelation, Sasha still considers her mother, Penelope, as her true parent, emphasizing that their bond remains unchanged.
It was revealed that Sasha and her twin sister were born in 1995 following a mistake at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, where the wrong embryo was implanted into their mother. The biological parents of Sasha and her twin later had another daughter who is their true biological sibling.
Both families are exploring legal options to uncover the truth behind the mix-up. While North Shore A.R.T managed the hospital’s fertility clinic during that time, Virtus Health, the current IVF provider, has denied any responsibility for the incident.
Virtus Health stated that they were not involved in the matter in 1995, as they did not own or operate any entity related to the incident at that time. The Mirror has contacted Virtus Health for further comments on the situation.
