Jake Paul announces a heartfelt tribute to Anthony Joshua’s deceased friends during the Amanda Serrano vs. Danila Tellez event tonight. Most Valuable Promotions, the company owned by the YouTuber-turned-boxer, honors the memories of Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami by displaying their names at the center of the ring canvas. The two friends tragically lost their lives in a recent car crash in Nigeria, while Joshua luckily escaped with minor injuries.
Following a controversial match against Paul, Joshua traveled to Nigeria where the fatal accident occurred. The collision involved the SUV Joshua and his friends were traveling in and a stationary truck near Makun on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun state.
In preparation for Saturday night’s event in Puerto Rico, Paul and MVP CEO Nakisa Bidarian ensure that the names of Ayodele and Ghami are prominently featured. Expressing his condolences, Paul, who sustained injuries during the fight with Joshua, shared a message on social media with praying hands.
Reflecting on the accident, Paul emphasized the value of life over boxing. Meanwhile, Joshua has been discharged from the hospital and flown back to the United Kingdom for his friends’ funeral arrangements. Although a ceremony is planned, there is uncertainty about Joshua’s attendance to avoid unnecessary attention.
In a twist of fate, Joshua narrowly escaped the tragedy by changing seats with his friends just before the fatal journey. The driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving. Kayode’s lawyer claims it was an accident due to brake failure and provides details of the seating arrangements before the crash.
The legal proceedings for Kayode’s case have been postponed until January 20 for trial.
