Jane McDonald has candidly shared her ongoing struggle, describing it as “awful.” The former panelist of the popular show Loose Women revealed the passing of her fiancé Eddie Rothe in 2017. Eddie, who was a well-known drummer with bands like Liquid Gold and The Searchers, was diagnosed with lung cancer shortly before his death following a persistent cough.
Jane, renowned as a singer and TV presenter, dedicated herself to caring for Eddie during his final days. Their relationship, which began in their teenage years before they drifted apart, was reignited nearly thirty years later after a chance encounter on This Morning. The couple got engaged in 2008, with Jane commending Eddie for his support in her career.
Reflecting on the loss of Eddie nine years later, Jane expressed her ongoing grief in an interview with Heat magazine. She emphasized the daily remembrance of Eddie, stating, “There’s not a day that goes by when I don’t think of Eddie – it’s awful. I’m not going to sugarcoat it in any way.”
Despite her sorrow, Jane stressed the importance of intertwining joy with grief in life. She highlighted the need to embrace happiness alongside sorrow to maintain balance. Jane admitted to finding herself at a stable point currently, where she consciously chooses the positive path each day.
Jane, who had contemplated retirement, unexpectedly achieved a top 10 album, Living The Dream, and continues to make TV appearances. This recent success marks her first top 10 album as an independent artist. Jane credited her late fiancé for this accomplishment, viewing it as a gift from him.
In addition to her musical achievements, Jane opened up about her battle with PTSD following Eddie’s passing. She expressed a desire to honor Eddie’s memory by celebrating his life rather than dwelling on sadness.
Jane expressed feeling grateful for the time she spent with Eddie and believes his presence continues to inspire her. She shared her belief that Eddie remains with her, especially through the songs she creates.
Fans can catch Jane McDonald in Nashville on Channel 5, where she will delve into the making of her album while exploring the vibrant music scene in Tennessee.
